Permanent Makeup FAQ

Yes, fillers and lip colour is a beautiful combination! Fillers provides volume which PMU does not and PMU provides definition which fillers do not so it’s a match made in heaven.

We recommend you get your lip colour treatment first, and fillers 4 weeks after your last treatment.

Each individual client varies greatly, from no swelling at all to a lot. Even if you do swell, the good news is it usually only lasts around 2 hours and is actually a sign of a good immune system. It’s completely normal.

Yes you can, but if you are suffering from an active cold sore on the day of your treatment unfortunately we will have to reschedule. If you suffer from cold sores but don’t have any, take antiviral treatments in the lead up to your appointment to reduce the chance of a flare up. If you aren’t sure of anything, get in touch.

Your speech will not be affected at all. On the day of the treatment we recommend you avoid liquids and spicy foods. For the following 3 days, use a straw to drink and be mindful not to open your mouth too wide, so be careful when you’re laughing! Also… no kissing! This may increase your risk of infection.

Generally we stay within the lip line. The maximum we can journey outside is 0.5mm but any further and an unnatural look will be created. It is possible to go slightly outside on the bottom lip but not the top.

Due to the sharp definition, some clients do report having bigger looking lips despite no volume being added.

Your lips will likely look like they have a thick layer of lipstick applied. The colour will be strong for maximum 4 days and gradually flakes off to reveal a more natural colour. They may feel tight but keep applying Vaseline and this will speed the healing process along.

Pain levels vary greatly between clients, but on average it’s about 5/10. It’s less invasive than normal tattooing and some clients quite like the feeling or even fall asleep during the treatment! Ultimately PMU is a result-driven treatment so some discomfort may occur.

Absolutely! We recommend you bring your favourite lip products so that we can colour match. During your consultation you will look at the colour selection in detail and Ramona will also offer her opinion.

We have 4 to choose from - lash line definer, soft eyeliner with shading, eyeliner with flick, or latino liner with shading. Please visit this link if you would like more information about what’s on offer

Yes we do for 3 of the treatments, so you can be 100% sure of the style. The one treatment we do not draw the template for is the lash line definer. This is because pigment will only be applied to the lash line area therefore the template is not needed as we follow the natural lash line on the eye.

Yes, we have black, black brown, brown, charcoal grey, and even some greens and violets! Our most popular colour is black brown as it isn’t too strong or too light.

Unfortunately not. Eyelashes must be removed prior to eyeliner treatments.

The area will heal in around 5 days, and we recommend you do not wear makeup for 7 days and do not have eyelashes fitted for 2 weeks. However, bear in mind you will be coming back for your touch up, and so lashes will have to be removed for that. It would be a waste to spend your money on lashes to only wear them for a short amount of time.

As permanent makeup becomes more popular and more in demand, we have to offer a variety of eyebrow designs and techniques to suit our clients’ individual needs. We want to create those perfect, bespoke eyebrows that they love every day. Options available are ombre brows, hair stroke brows or combination brows.

Ombre brows is suitable for every skin type and is used to create a makeup effect. Styles range from a natural day time makeup look to very defined, brows on fleek all the time. This technique creates a shadow effect transitioning from dark to light.

Hair stroke brows are for clients who want a more natural looking brow. Pigment is applied to skin to replicate fine hair strokes which creates a fluffy, soft, natural looking eyebrow.

Combination brows is a mixture of ombre and hair stroke, therefore it has the benefits of both techniques. We can fill in sparse areas of over-plucked brows and then give the desired level of definition. With this technique we can create either a soft but defined look, or bolder, more bushy looking eyebrows.

The level of pain is one of the main concerns my clients have before booking the treatment. I can assure you that it’s nothing to be worried about – the level of pain is minimal if not zero. It is very common for my clients to drift off and fall asleep to the music while I artfully create their permanent makeup enhancement. Anaesthetic cream is used before and during the treatment to ensure maximum comfort.

Permanent makeup does not mean your eyebrows will forever retain the shape and colour that is initially created. Pigment usually fades over 1 year to a level that will require a colour boost. At this point the technique or style of your brows can be changed, and every year you can slightly adjust how you want your brows to look – more defined or more natural. If clients decide to opt out and not have a colour boost done, faded pigment will remain in the skin for around 3-7 years. It is called permanent as some pigment may remain in the skin for the rest of your life, but it won’t be visible. But why would you not want to colour boost your perfect eyebrows and wake up makeup ready every day?

During the consultation I discuss with my client what shapes and colours they desire. We look at examples together and decide the most suitable technique.

I colour match the right tone of colour depending on the client’s wishes, and also based on their natural tones. If the client wants a defined, makeup-like look then we choose darker tones. If a client wants a softer, more natural look then lighter, warmer tones are selected.

For shaping I always try to follow the client’s natural eyebrow growth. Each shape created is bespoke and suits each individual face. I must follow natural features such as bone structure to ensure every single client has the brows that are perfect for them. No brow stencils are allowed at my clinic! I custom design every single pair of brows and they are drawn on with pencil following the discussion. I will make the tiniest adjustments necessary until the client is 100% happy and only then will the treatment begin. Every set of eyebrows I create are unique for every single client.

The healing process is individual to every client but if the aftercare routine is being followed as advised, it will take 7-10 days. Your eyebrows are considered to be fully healed 4-6 weeks after the treatment as by then the skin has healed to its before-treatment condition and it is now that your enhancement will be visible at its best. During this period your brows may be lighter or less defined than what you expected, but slowly the pigment saturates and becomes more visible around 6 weeks later.

The eyebrow aftercare includes a gentle cleansing routine twice daily, but do not splash your face with water. For best healing results you should avoid steamy baths, showers, and chlorinated pools. You must keep them dry and clean for 7-10 days. Aftercare treatments are provided and should be applied on your brows for maximum comfort and best healed results.

There is not much maintenance needed for your brows. One they are done, you wake up every morning, eyebrows ready for about 1 year. Be sure to book in for your annual colours boost to keep your brows on fleek. If you would like to keep them defined for longer, then our advice is to avoid sun exposure and sun beds, but if this isn’t possible at least use a high SPF sun screen. Sun exposure makes your brows fade quicker so as we protect our skin we should also protect our brows by using sun screen.

Determining how expensive something is is subjective. Expensive to one client may be cheap to another. If you want to have your brows nicely shaped and groomed, you may have to tint and thread them around every 2 weeks. This would cost around £20 per appointment which amounts to £480 a year. This is also very time-costly. So it may come as a surprise to you to learn that you can save a lot of time and money by having your eyebrows permanently enhanced.

Brow trends change every single year. Around 2 decades ago it was popular to have thin, rainbow-shaped brows, but trends have changed and clients are now suffering the consequences! A lot of my clients have over-plucked their brows while following trends and they now have sparse, patchy brows that have never gone back to the way they were. Over the last couple of years it has been trendy to have thicker, bolder, sharper looking brows, but what happens when trends change again? Personally myself I feel the best option for any client is to follow their face shape and give definition to their natural look rather than following trends.

Now is the era of brows being the most important aspect of a woman’s beauty care. But with trends changing all the time, it can feel hard to stay up to date! The good news is that we are coming to a time where the most natural looking brows are the trendiest. This year thicker, fluffier and less defined brows are coming to fashion, which creates a soft, natural look. However, the classic look is always trendy, so if you choose to have a natural, makeup-like look you will always look fashionable!

I have always been interested in drawing and art. I love to sketch portraits and most of my friends would be given a little portrait of themselves as a birthday present. I remember all the time drawing on corners of napkins or on my study books. Portraits have always fascinated me. I also was good at maths so it seemed logical at the time for me to follow an accounting career and suppress my artistic nature. While working as accountant I was following many permanent makeup artists and was fascinated by their artistic skills. I loved how they made women more beautiful and confident. After a couple of years working as accountant I made my decision to change my path and start my career as permanent makeup artist. I have never looked back and am now happily enhancing beautiful faces and enjoying my life as a permanent makeup artist and trainer. My biggest achievements so far are winning 2nd place in the Biotek Worldwide Permanent Makeup Championship and becoming a regional Biotek director and distributor for Scotland.

Yes! Numbing cream is applied before and during the treatment to ensure maximum comfort. This will bring the average pain level down to only 3/10. It can be uncomfortable and even tickley, but clients usually do not find it very painful.

Whether you have had an eyeliner, lips or brows permanent makeup treatment, we recommend you do not go on holiday until at least 2 weeks after your appointment. It is preferable that you avoid the sun until a month after your treatment, after which it is okay to expose your eyeliner treatment. However, we recommend you protect your brows and lips with an SPF cream for the rest of your treatment life.
